Equal Rights Amendment
In the waning days of his presidency, President Biden declared the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as the ratified 28th Amendment to the US Constitution, marking it as the capstone to a century-long fight for gender equality in the U.S.
President Biden declared that, after passing by a 2/3 vote of Congress and being ratified by 3/4 of the states as prescribed by Article 5 of the U.S. Constitution, the ERA is now "the law of the land."
While the declaration may be considered symbolic, The president is to be commended for acknowledging that "it is long past time to recognize the will of the American people."
Thank you, Mr. President.
