Empowering Voters.
Defending Democracy.

unite_and_rise_8.5

In May 2025, LWVUS launched the "Unite & Rise 8.5" initiative with one goal in mind: to activate 8.5 million people to rise up and take action through peaceful yet powerful civic engagement to defend and preserve our democracy.

Backed by research from the Carr Ryan Center for Human Rights at Harvard Kennedy School, we believe that civic education paired with strong non-violent action provide the most effective path to lasting change and protection of our constitution. Local Leagues all across Wisconsin are leading this movement to protect and defend our democracy by and for the people.

LEARN more about this historic grassroots movement, including actions you can take weekly to "turn up the heat" on elected officials and stand up for our constitution.

As LWV of Appleton-Fox Cities builds its energy around issues that impact and affect us, we invite you to SHARE your concerns and ideas with us.

Watch this page for specific ways you can "do something" to effect positive change as we "Unite and Rise."

LWV Demands Congress Restore Order of Law
Leagues from Appleton-Fox Cities and Winnebago County came together at a news conference in March 2025 to sign a letter calling on the Fox Valley's Congressional delegates to exercise their authority and duty to uphold the rule of law, defend the constitution and protect their constituents.

The Leagues called out congressional inaction to protect the nation's system of checks and balances and our democracy, demanding they restore stability and safety to our nation.

The Time Is Now: Funding Public Education in the Fox Cities
Monday, April 14, 2025
This informative program developed by the Fox Cities Advocates for Education and presented by James Bowman and Patti Clark Stojke  described the educational opportunities available to children in the Fox Cities and how public schools help them achieve success. “The Time Is Now” also explains how schools in the Fox Cities are undermined by inadequate funding in areas such as operations, special education, and mental health. This information is timely in that the state’s 2025-2027 budget is being formulated.

The PDF slide presentation is viewable HERE.
